Facing a Clackmannan Co 2’s team coming off the back of four straight wins, Murrayfield DAFS 4’s combined well for a solid win.

A special thanks to many of the 2’s who came down and helped out on their day off, to make it really feel like a club win in a Saturday MUFslam. Particular thanks to LV for boundary riding for the other team for 30+ overs.

Skipper Sunny lost the toss, and so we joined him in the field. Subhranil (2-17) and Ligin (3-17) put in strong opening shifts, sending 2,3, and 4 on their way for 1,1 and 0. With the score sitting at 18-3 the remaining opener Bennett set himself for a long one, and with the help of McConchie Sr set about righting the ship.

With Baikie (1-12) on first change getting the ball to hoop, Sr did not last much longer, being replaced by Jr with 41 on the board, and approaching drinks.

Bennett and McConchie Jr ,however, were not to be so easily shifted. Finally, an inspired change of bowling had Neil (2-11) getting the opener to pop one up off the gloves to keeper Dave, breaking the partnership with the score on 87. Neil again gave the ball plenty of flight next over and was rewarded with another batsman holing out to a good catch by Ligin at long-off.

The return of the opening bowlers bought Ligin another two wickets and Rajesh(1-18) finally removed McConchie Jr in the second last over. Total damage 128/9, very chaseable, even with the outfield slightly slower than usual.

After excellent teas, MUFS proceeded to cobble together a borderline acceptable chase. Losing Hashim early with the score on 3, the remainder put in just enough to get us over the line. Top scorer was Swami opening the batting with 22, and the next four all proceeded to rassle up double figures.

The bowling was solid but all will feel like they should have put the game to bed themselves. Dave(10), Neil (16), Raghuram(14) and Sunny(17) all came and went, moving both the score and the wickets tally along at a decent clip. Partnerships of 24, 28, 5, 26, and 26 led to Norm(15) and Ben(13) putting on the remaining handful to close out the game with 10 overs to spare.

Overall a good win against a side near the top of the ladder. 4’s will be hoping to string together a few in a row now to move towards the top half of the table.
