It’s now over two months since the season ended and I thought it would be a good time to bring you up to date on the things the Committee have been doing and some of the plans looking forward to hopefully a full season in 2021.

Nets Project

Before the first lockdown the Committee were already looking at refurbishing the existing two net lanes. However, the summer interest both at senior and junior level and the challenges presented made it clear that we could benefit from the installation of a third net lane to help the coaching experience and to allow for the use of two nets at any time distancing might be required in the future. Both the Council and Friends of Roseburn have no objections to this and we are now looking at how we can achieve this as well as improving what is there.

There will be a paper coming to the Annual General Meeting in January with a recommendation from the Committee about what we do. Hopefully everyone will buy into this project which is for the longer term good of the club and community.

Annual General Meeting – Date for Your Diaries

The Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday 20th January 2021 at 7.30pm. Unless things change dramatically by then it will be by Zoom. It will be important because we will need to make a decision on the Nets Project and we also need to plan ahead for 2021. At the moment ESCA who organise the Leagues are looking at two scenarios – a normal season with League games from 1st May to 28th August or a shortened season.

The Armoury

Time has been spent checking kit and tidying the armoury – huge thanks in particular to James Gutteridge who has now made the second room we use much better and is working on the area through the back as well. Thanks too, to Simon Hodgson who has provided racking for the two other rooms that means storage of club kit and wider equipment is much better.

Winter Activities - Indoor Nets

Junior practices have not yet started because of issues around availability of facilities. The position looks to be easing and I am waiting to hear about St George’s following a further request and also about Tynecastle High School (through Edinburgh Leisure) which may be an option.

Senior indoor nets will run for ten weeks form Saturday 6th February next year at Edinburgh Academy Junior Sports Hall off Arboretum Road from 11am to 1pm each week.

Cricket Scotland have put guidance in place for indoor practices but we should be able to comply with it.

Any queries or questions ? Please contact me or any of the Committee – our next meeting is 9th December.
