MUFS PLAYER PROFILES

Profile of John Norman Baikie

The County PlayerA Beast writes... "only true allrounder in MUFS who would get a game as a batsman or a bowler, Norm is equally adroit swinging the ball a long way or swatting it even further. Hailing from Way up North and claiming to be a County cricket player (Caithness County!) Norm is one of the few Highlanders in the team. Norm possesses all the right gear and officially the biggest bag in the club. Typically found winning some pub quiz or another most nights of the week, his flat is packed with case upon case of lager (but don't tell Darryn). Handles his beer better than any other player in the club but does not sing! Rather decent squash player when out of season, however his enthusiasm for the summer game must put him near the top of the Mufs most games played, most Nets attended league table."

Most Likely to Sing Karaoke to? (song/artist) I think I’d probably pass out before I got that drunk.
Fave Shakespearian Play? No idea
Person Most Want to be Marooned on Desert Island with and why? Cameron Diaz. Not a lot of people know this, but we were born on exactly the same day. (Coincidence? I don’t think so).
Person Least Want to be Marooned on Desert Island with and why? Some of my colleagues because they’re completely mad; and David Beckham ‘cause he is such a twat. (webed- but surely he could lend you his sarong when yours was in the wash...)
Best Sporting Moment? Bothams Ashes, and bowling Edinburgh Uni’ Staff out for 11 (even though I didn’t bowl). Also those odd occasions when Scotland beat England at Rugby
Best Sporting Moment/Achievement (personal or any)? Two 7-a-side cricket competitions in 1990 when I scored 145 runs at an average of 145 (53 not out, 56 & 36 not out), The quotes in the ‘John O’ Groat Journal’ were along the lines of "The outstanding player of the day was Norman Baikie" and "Stormin’ Norman Baikie, without question the Caithness batsman of the year". If only I could rediscover that form, (or find those bowlers again)!
Worst Sporting Moment/Achievement (personal or any)? I was captain of Napier Uni’ away at Aberdeen and got out first ball. We got well beaten.
Sporting Idol?Ian Botham .
Personal Motto/Philosophy? There’s always time for 1 more pint.
Significant/Tenous Claim to Fame (if any)? I have met Ian Botham on a few occasions. The most notable was at the start of his John O’ Groats to Lands End walk. I had a Somerset CCC t-shirt on and because of this got on TV and my picture in the papers.
