MUFS v SANNOX CRICKET CLUB - SUN 5 AUGUST 2007 PHOTOS |
A day where we met a wall of rain when we got off the ferry. After some impromptu pub-quizzing at a local hotel (in the warmth and dry), some lunatics decided we should attempt a 20:20 game, despite the pouring rain and sodden conditions underfoot. So one of the soggiest games of cricket, that even the likes of Morton would have packed their flippers and bog-snorkels away, commenced.
For the record Mufs scored 55-7 of 20 overs. Sicknote refused to bat higher than 11 for fear of drowning or other slightly less fatal injury. Yelly senior decided it was best left to youth in these conditions and went 10. Charlotte and Big Pav in the end put on the main bulk of the runs. The local Mountain Rescue team was just about to be called to rescue 22 lunatics from the hill-side before Sannox prevailed off the very last ball.
I suppose that once reconciled to the lunacy and drenching, there was some sort of perverse pleasure to be had; perhaps the knowledge that one was participating in one of the soggiest games of cricket ever? A World Record also maybe set in the amount of airborne and surface water absorbed by a 11 cricketers in one afternoon - an average of 33mm per cricketer per hour (I am making that bit up).

The most important part of the trip.... brekkie on the Ferry. Makes getting up at 7:00am on a Sunday and driving 75 miles across Scotland all the more palateable. | |

The now traditional fishy (or pie) and chippies are consumed - and probably the only way to keep Adeel quiet for 5 minutes. |
