RBG Cricket Club

An illustrious history of over 100 years and a fertile ('scuse the pun) source of late for MDCC Players.

News and match reports below....

Glorious Defeat

Botanics suffered a glorious defeat last night (11/6). Ed Un put on 96 for 5 in their 20 overs and we reached 77 in our 20. One or two controversial decisions were made but hey that's cricket. Very well played though to all who were there in particular Iain Martin (1-18), William Milliken (1-22)(M.O.T.M ) and Rafiq (1-22) on the bowling and William (24) and Rob Fotheringham (14) on the batting. It could have been even closer if Will had come in two overs earlier but never mind.

News and Match Reports

14 May 2002 SHHD v Maccabi

Iain Martin Reports...

SHHD (one of Murrayfield-Dafs "associate" mid-week clubs) had their first game this week vs Macabbi. Giles Wheatly slammed 50 for Maccabi in a total of 103-2 in a rain reduced 16 over game. Gavin Fisher (Leith FA) 1-24 and Iain Martin (Muffs) 1-15 took the only wickets. SHHD responded with 52-4 with Rob Fotheringham (Mufs) making a determined 13 against the typically competitive bowling of Gus McLean who took 2-5.

NB: SHHD cater for newcomers to the game and junior players as our fixtures are arranged for fun rather serious cricket!

Edinburgh Reivers CC

Started life originally as the Edinburgh District Council Planning Department Cricket Club but became Reivers partially due to the excellant cricket tours down South (Reiver= Border Raider of old..) and also due to the Club membership becoming mainly non-Council. Closely linked with a hard core of DAFS players and a vital source in keeping DAFS alive until the merger with Murrayfield. Super Tour to Prague last year...

Captain for 2002 Season is Roger Wilkins. You can get Roger on the following email Link or home phone number 0131-476 0621

Reivers Claim Parks Trophy Revenge (15/6)

After suffering at the hands of RBGs umpiring Dr Death last year, 8 man Reivers managed to steal a march on RBG with a nailbiting victory at Muirhouse. Despite the best efforts of the hard-hitting Rupert James with a not out 49, Reivers took the game by 6 runs. Scores and more details to follow...probably in the RBG bit above when Mr Martin has recovered...

Reivers Slide to Parks Defeat (17/6)

Not a contest of equals, particularly as we had only 8 players (including Roger's brother who hadn't played for years), plus a non-show from the elusive Harley Ebanks (he lives!), against the Muslim might of Edinburgh CC. The game was a little farcical to be honest as the footholds for bowlers were more akin to slime than firm earth. We were simply battered to all parts of the ground - 148 of 18 overs was perhaps a let off- a great near-maiden over from Richard "Aint No" Body pegging back the mountainous climb of their total. Their opener finished on 92 not out... he was taking the piss a bit. Gamely we set off on the chase but wickets got lost in the ludicrous attempt the match the run-rate. We at least managed to get past 50. Good luck to Mufs midweekers when they meet this crew (but must be said their bowling is not that special and you just need to get one or two key wickets). Final thought- for someone who hadn't played for yonks - Roger's bro (I forget his name- shocking) did admiraly well as 'keeper. The endearing memory overall of this match was being eaten alive by midges- jeez!
