DAFS CC PLAYER STATISTICS

With many thanks to DAFS statto stalwart, Bob Wilson for the maintenance of such a fine archive over the years (going back as far as 1952) ... here's an extract from the records for those current-ish MDCC/Reivers players/officials who used to play for (what ended up as) the finest 8-a-side Saturday cricket team perhaps ever. These stats include League and Friendly DAFS games. Also a variety of DAFS record performances at the foot of this page.

Other brief highlights from the archives...

Batting...highest individual score (at least since 1952) is 113 by Declan Cahill in 1992 (plus 2 other 100s) ; followed by Ian Anderson (107no in 1976 and 103no in 1973); Iain Munro (104no in 1972 plus another 100); Paul Hubbard (103 in 1998) and the only other DAFS centurion, Geoff Smith in 1979.
Highest season average was Graham Lane with 68.5 in 1997. Most runs in a season Declan Cahill with 654.
Highest partnership is 157 3rd wkt stand between Ian Anderson and G B Smith in 1976, next is 4th wkt stand of 154 between Paul Hubbard and Simon Kettles v Grange 1998 then 144 1st wkt stand v Stirling County between Paul Hubbard, John Norm Baike and Ian Shiels (retired hurt -(I headbutted a beamer!)).
Highest Innings score by DAFS was that magical 235 for 7 versus Heriots in 1997 (off 57.5 overs -they declared early, ha! ha!). Highest midweek score was 191 for 3 v East Craigs in 1995 off 20 overs. RBG got tanked for 166 for 2 in 1997. DAFS lowest league score was 26 v Corstorphine in 1975 - lowest midweek 20 for 9(a.o) v Scottish Widows in 1995.

Bowling.... Best average in a season was Fred Robson with 2.23 in season 2000; most wickets in a season 93 by L C A Ellis in 1961 then Ian Anderson with 89 in 1972; and most in match again Ian Anderson with 10 for 23 v Leith Acad in 1980. Norman Allan 4th best when he took 9 for 56 v Stew/Melv in 1991. Lowest opposition scores against DAFS was, in the League, Cupar with 18 in 1988 and, in midweek/friendly a lowly 5 by the Forestry Commission in 1977.

Fielding... most career catches held in all senses of the word by Bob Wilson with 264, then Ian Anderson with 163, brother Gordon Anderson with 142 then Simon "Beefy" Kettles with 112. Of non (I think) keepers, Peter Russam's 111 and Jitu "JJ" Joshi's 110 worth merit. Of current-ish crop is Fred Robson with 67, Norman Allan with 63 and Ian Shiels with 50 and Paul Hubbard with 27. Most stumpings Gordon Anderson with 30 then Bob Wilson with 28.

Highest appearances belongs to Bob Wilson with 564 appearances between 1956 and 1999 then Ian Anderson with 531 between 1967 and 1998. Out of current-ish players top is Fred Robson with 244 and Norman Allan 202.

Overall Team League statistics since 1972 is Played 365, Won 138, Lost 128, Drawn 80, Abandoned 18, Tied 1 (an incredible game v Corstorphine in 1998 with both teams all out for 55 with us chasing- Beefy caught out going for a winning boundary!!).

Honours since 1972 - Champions of Grade B in 1977, 1980, 1989, and 1996. Champions of Grade C in 1988.

Finally, was Ian Anderson the greatest DAFS player of all time? Taking over 50 wickets the most (5 times) and since 1952 topping the batting averages the most (8 times) plus most aggregrate runs in 13 out of 14 seasons from 1967 to 1981, surely indeed he was.

In due course I will try to extract League-only records from the archives. Cheers Sicknote.
